Plant Wall

A $133 million plan in Portland, Oregon, has been announced to cover the Federal Building from ground floor to rooftop with a 200 foot wall of living vegetation.

Officials estimate that scheme, incorporating solar panels, will save roughly $280,000 per year in energy costs, and the building will use about 60-65% less energy than a similar-sized office.

The plant wall is likely to be irrigated by a combination of rainwater from the roof and water recycled from the building's plumbing.
